International Orchid Festival 2013 collaboration dessert



Grill & Bar LIEU will be serving special collaboration dessert at lunch time.



International Orchid Festival 2013 will be held at Tokyo Dome, which is about 7min. walk from Hotel Niwa Tokyo, and this is the special collaboration dessert served at lunch time and teatime at Grill & Bar LIEU.

This delicately sweetened and beautiful dessert is inspired by a dome stadium filled with colorful orchids and flowers.


The dessert will be served from Feb.1st to 28th. We're looking forward to serving you!

Setsubun's bean throwing at Kanda-Myojin Shrine


This is Kanda-Myojin Shrine, one of the most famous shrine in Tokyo.



Kanda-Myojin was very popular amoung local Edo people and even now, the shrine is venerated by 108 towns such as Kanda, Nihonbashi and Akihabara.



Setsubun's bean throwing ceremony is held annually on February 3rd at Kanda-Myojin as well as other shrines in Japan.



You can see so many people at the ground of shrine to catch their good fortune.



"Setsubun"...The day before beginning of spring according to the lunar calender, literally means "the day between two seasons". The shrine priest throws dried soybeans hoping for a good fortune and to drive away an evil spirit. People tries to catch the soybeans so that they can live the year happy and healthy.

"Setsubun" and Plum Blossoms

On Februery 3rd, the "Setsubun Festival" will be held in many shrines in Japan.
"Setsubun" is the day before beginning of spring according to the lunar calender, literally means "the day between two seasons".

Here in Misaki-jinja Shrine, the shrine priest throw beans hoping for a good fortune and drive away an evil spirit.



Under the shrine building, many people reach their hands to catch those beans which are their lucky fortune and happiness for this year.



In the middle of February, the plum trees start blooming and we Japanese realize that spring is coming very close.This is Yushima-Tenjin Shrine which will hold its annual plum-blossom festival from February to March.



You can enjoy many colors of plum-blossoms.



Also, Koishikawa Korakuen, one of the surviving edo period garden in Tokyo, is very famous for plum-blossoms.
